Oh irony, we meet again.

How funny can Microsoft get at their attempts to continually gain market share by producing their ad campaign of “I’m a PC” on a macs using adobe creative suite 3. Shortly after the details were posted on Flickr, Microsoft scrambled to have the embarrassing details erased from existence, but they were unsuccessful.

The revelation came from a couple guys at AppleInsider who were reviewing the commercials of “stereotyped cool people” who say “I’m a PC” to affirm they run windows. As if the message is supposed to convey the idea of conformity, “Hey! People you probably want to be like in this certain demographic are doing it, you should do it too”.

Thanks Microsoft, but no thanks.

I’m reminded of the campaign to support the “Christian Side Hug” where priests were trying to get youths to give up a normal embrace for a Christian side hug by employing “hard core” Christian rappers to sing about the benefits of hugging from the side. If you haven’t seen the music video, it’s worth the 4 minutes. Check it out at http://youtu.be/m_Oj0-splZw and get ready to laugh very hard.

Back to Microsoft. The guys at apple insider found that not even Microsoft itself can wean itself off the Mac, as the metadata discovered by Flickr user LuisDS points out. Microsoft was not only using Macs but also Adobe’s software in place of its own Expressions Studio, which the company bills as software that “takes your creative possibilities to a new level.

Moreover, yours truly at MyNewITGuys was part of a study focus group not too long ago at a local advertising agency in Boulder, CO who was reviewing ad campaigns for new type of internet browser from Microsoft. But every single computer in there office was, you guessed it, Apple.

I don’t want my followers to get the idea that I’m pushing one type of OS over another. Personally I use both. I just despise the idea of hypocrisy or disingenuousness especially in the modern age of “secrets” moving at the speed of information. In reality certain computers are better for different things, and it just depends on the values of the individuals.

At the end of the day, it’s a good idea for companies to focus on their strengths instead of trying to be something they’re not. Microsoft, if your commercials are made on macs, don’t focus your ads campaigns on the creative possibilities of Windows movie maker.

Maybe Bill Gates uses a mac.
